Course Learning Objectives

  • We explore the legislation around children and families, equality, the EYFS and UN Rights of the Child.
  • Discover how we use our senses, and what this looks like when there is hypersensitivity or hyposensitivity.
  • We will apply the Graduated Approach and create our own SMART targets for our child scenarios.

This programme is designed for all practitioners, not just SENDCOs. We begin by exploring the important legislation that ensures every child has equal opportunities for learning and development. This includes the Equality and Diversity Act, The Early Years Statutory Framework, The Children and Families Act, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and The SEND Code of Practice Guidance.

Linking in the hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity leading into sensory processing, we then discover how there are 7 senses to learning:

  1. Hearing
  2. Touch
  3. Taste
  4. Sight
  5. Smell
  6. Pressure
  7. Movement

We also put into practice how we can use early identification to feed into the graduated approach, using scenarios for group discussion. We then also make our own SMART targets.
